Mendip Farmers Hunt : The Mendip Hunt was originated in 1760 by the Tudway family of Wells. In 1920 Mendip Hunt was re- started and in 1940 the Mendip Farmers' Hunt committee was formed.

Priddy Fair :

A PLEA TO ALL TRAVELERS VISITING THE FAIR.
As usual I will be taking photographs before and after the Fair. You are really important to the photographic record, without you it would not be a true representation. Many of you already know me and have been kind and helpful in the past - I am asking for your help to continue making my record of the Fair. PLEASE let me photograph you, I don't make any money from this, the pictures are for my own personal project - not the papers, etc. Thank you.

Priddy Fair 2008 : At least the weather was better this year but still not great !! There were significantly less people from the Traveling community which I consider to be a great loss as they provide much of the "color" both preceding and during the Fair. However, a big thanks to those who let me photograph them, and an especially BIG THANKS to Brian, Buddy and Joey for the thrill of their Trotting races. I actually had a ride on one of the Sulkies while it raced at 35 miles an hour, see my Blog for more. Otherwise I thought it was a bit of a dull day, maybe its now too well organized and has lost some of its character.

Big Green Gathering 2007 : The Big Green Gathering is an annual event which has been held for the past few years at Fernhill Farm on the Mendips. It grew from a smaller event held within the Glastonbury Festival. I can't do justice to what it is all about so look at the main Big Green Gathering site.It isn't just a Mendip event but is of national importance attracting around 20,000 people.
I was only able to attend on one day but it was an amazing experience, and one that I would encourage other local people to visit and understand what it is all about rather than dismissing it as something which is 'undesirable' in our area.
I don't have captions for the individual images but I hope you enjoy them as a taster. There was an overwhelming atmosphere of friendliness, the food on offer was excellent and there was so much of interest that I will definitely need to spend more time there next year.

Big Green Gathering 2007

Ploughing Matches : The Mendip Ploughing Society, established in 1858, holds it's annual ploughing match in September each year at different farms on Mendip. There are also hedging and dry stone walling competitions, plus the "produce" which includes hay, silage, grains, potatoes,and a variety of other things. It is a great way to spend a day seeing the skills of the competitors and enjoying a good lunch prepared by the ladies.

Frome Cheese Show 2001 : At the heart of the show is the huge Cheese Pavilion which houses over 500 cheese entries from producers all over the UK. The show also has classes in Horticulture, Home and Handicraft, Fodder & Grain, Egg, Cheese and also showing classes in Dairy Cattle, Beef, Horses, Sheep and Goat. 2007 will be the show's 130th year
